Serving West Yorkshire since World War 2

After the World War 2, our owner, then a young Stanley Woollett left the RAF as a qualified radio engineer and opened a shop in Bradford. He started selling radio sets which were powered by 12 volt accumulators. As most houses had no electricity those days, he’d put accumulators on charge during the day and then deliver them in the evening so that people could listen to the BBC radio programmes.

A brief history of our company:

In 1947 he opened a second shop which supplied televisions. However, the business only started expanding after 1951 when the Holme Moss Transmitter opened and TV viewers started receiving more channels other than the BBC. Within a few years, he began selling washing machines and fridges as well. 

In 1958, Roger Smith joined as an apprentice radio and TV engineer. Eventually he took over the sales side of the business and the sales and service department were separated in 1987. The separate entity was called Woollett Service. 

In the early 1960s, Stanley Woollett got together with a few other radio and TV dealers and formed a buying group which was and is still known as Combined Independent (North) Ltd affiliated to Combined Independent (Holdings) Ltd. Later in 1966, EURONICS was formed through CIH Ltd and it became Europe’s largest electrical buying group. 

Roger Smith retired in 2007 but Woollett Service remained functional and became very popular under the leadership of Andrew who also opened another shop in Otley in West Yorkshire. In 2010, Andrew was joined by David Kelk and the company was rebranded Woollett Home Electrical Ltd. In 2014 Woolletts purchased Peter Dyer Home Electrical (formely based in Ilkley) where David had previously been Sales Director back in the 1990's.
